ABOUT US

From Discovery to Clinical Impact

The IMPACT Program is a translational research initiative, led by Dr. Hesham Abdelbary, focused on improving the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of implant-associated infections. Using robust in vitro and clinically representative in vivo research models, the program studies bacterial biofilm formation and develops innovative antimicrobial strategies, including bacteriophage therapy and combination antibiotic approaches.

The IMPACT Program bridges laboratory research and clinical care by translating discoveries in biofilm biology and bacteriophage science into practical therapeutic strategies. By integrating fundamental research, preclinical models, and early-phase clinical trials, the program aims to accelerate the development of safe, effective, and personalized treatments for implant-associated infections.Through interdisciplinary collaboration, evidence-based medicine, and clinical trial development, the IMPACT Program is working to establish a nationally and internationally recognized Centre of Excellence dedicated to improving patient outcomes.
